When disaster strikes and your pet is in dire need of surgical care after hours, our two locations of Emergency Animal Hospital of Northwest Austin welcome emergencies even when your own vet is closed. Please be aware that our hospital only takes emergency cases, so if your pet needs a routine procedure such as a spay or neuter operation, you will need to contact your own regular veterinarian.
We welcome walk-ins as well as referrals from your own Austin veterinarian when your pet needs continued, specialized care. At both of our Austin locations, our facilities are fully staffed and equipped to perform surgery when your pet needs immediate surgical treatment. All of our veterinarians, as well as our technicians and other supporting staff, are committed to your pet's well-being. You can rest assured your companion will be in good hands before, during and after his surgery.
Cats and dogs can need emergency surgery for any number of reasons: they can incur open wounds or broken bones after a fight or an accident, for example, or they can ingest foreign objects which can cause an intestinal obstruction. Of course, there are also other conditions that can require emergency surgery such as a twist in the stomach or intestine, gall bladder disease, or hemorrhage secondary to cancer or trauma. In some cases, your Austin veterinarian may refer your pet to us for continued care after a procedure so we can take action if complications occur or if his condition becomes critical. Fortunately, in many cases, timely, quality medical attention can save your pet's life!
When your pet arrives at our emergency animal hospital, our team will perform an assessment to determine what type of care he needs. If you have your pet's medical records, we will review them to ensure we have the best possible overview of the situation. In some cases, we might have to perform diagnostics or take X-rays to determine the best course of action. Because there are always multiple veterinarians on duty, you will have access to more than one qualified opinion when the case requires additional assessment.
In the event the veterinarians recommend pet surgery to help your pet, we will discuss the costs and payment options with you first. From the moment your pet enters the operating room, his physical condition will be carefully monitored to ensure the procedure is as safe as possible. After the surgical procedure, we take care of your pet until he is well enough to be discharged and go back home with you again.
Our efficient administrative system makes sure that your pet's medical records of emergency procedures and other services are sent along to your own vet. If necessary, your vet can call our hospital for additional information or to consult with us about follow-up and rehabilitation treatment.
