When an emergency strikes, effective diagnostic tools can make the difference between a precise and accurate diagnosis and hours of ineffective diagnostic testing. At Emergency Animal Hospital of Northwest Austin, our emergency vet knows that when your pet’s life is on the line, every minute matters. As part of our commitment to cutting-edge diagnostic care, that’s why our emergency animal hospital provides advanced vet services, including veterinary radiology. Our advanced diagnostic tools, including digital X-rays, are extremely important to effectively diagnose pet symptoms.
Our emergency animal hospital offers the following radiology tests: in-house digital X-rays and CAT scans and MRIs for pets on a referral basis. These non-invasive diagnostic imaging tests may be used to look at the heart or broken bones. Our emergency vets may also use these tests to identify an intestinal foreign body that your pet ingested. Both our North and South emergency hospital locations are equipped with digital radiology.
Digital radiology offers important benefits for pets, pet owners and our veterinarians. Unlike traditional film X-rays that must be “processed,” digital X-rays images can be viewed immediately after they are taken. These images can easily be enlarged and instantly emailed or shared with other veterinarians, allowing for collaborative evaluation and diagnosis. Critically for your pet’s health, digital radiography uses extremely low amounts of radiation. Traditional X-rays, however, rely on higher levels of radiation to produce their images. In the past, this meant that pets that require multiple sets of X-rays could be exposed to higher than normal amounts of radiation. With digital radiography, however, this is no longer a concern. Our veterinarian can instead focus on taking the right diagnostic images to effectively identify the health problems affecting your pet.
In addition to X-rays, radiology services, such as an MRI for pets, are essential diagnostic tools that allow our veterinarian to effectively diagnose pet symptoms. MRIs are considered to be the industry standard for producing soft tissue images, including images of the brain and spine. Using MRIs, our veterinarian will be better able to identify the underlying cause for your pet’s health problems.
